St. Mary's Parish Council Meeting April 24th, 2006

The meeting began with a prayer prepared by Sr. Judy.  The following were present:  Rose Stang; Jim Franz; Kathy Gier; Greg Gorecki; Jacob Rachwal; Jackie Rachwal; Ted Rachwal; Larry Stiller; Fr. Jim Bartnik. 

A motion to accept the previous meeting's minutes by Sr. Judy, seconded by Jim Franz passed

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

  • The parish council could use a few more members, a person to represent each ministry.  Sr. Judy will compose a thank you thought in the bulletin for all past members
     

  • Our insurance will pick up the tab - approximately $15,000 to re-do the parish center roof less $1000.00 deductible.  Warranty for 50 years.
     

  • Larry Schiavone will upgrade the base of the cemetery cross and resurface the short blacktop sidewalk in back of the church.  Mike Arnold from the diocesan buildings department will oversee the refinishing of the cross and corpus.
     

  • The drip edge of the parking lot front door had to be redone because it was not managing the water.
     

  • Larry Stiller read a position paper put together by our Journey in Faith and Grace committee.  This view of our parish linked with St. Peter & Paul in Hamburg will be presented at the next cluster meeting on May 5th at St. Francis of Assisi.
     

  • Congratulations to Mike Schuster for the $100.00 awarded from St. Mary's Holy Name Society for submitting an essay to Msgr. McGuire Essay Contest.
     

 NEW BUSINESS

  • Altar and rosary sodality will sponsor a card party first Sunday in May (the 7th).  Other events noted included first communion, confirmation, May crowing, spaghetti dinner, youth group dance, rib dinner, mother's day, father's day, annual chicken dinner with money and quilt raffles.  See bulletin for dates
     

  • Registrations for CCD for 06-07 are coming in  Forms are on the website too.
     

  • St. Mary's annual scholarship will be continued.  June 4th will be the deadline.  A committee of 4 will judge the entries.
     

  • Father would like to see the eucharistic ministers' services maximally used.  If three stations are available, users will direct the traffic smoothly.
     

  • Next meeting May 22nd.

A motion to adjounr by Jim Franz, seconded by Greg Gorecki passed.
