St. Mary's Parish Council Meeting April 30th, 2007

The meeting began with a prayer at 7:00 p.m.  Present were Larry Stiller, Kathy Gier, Maryann Hauth, Fr. Bartnkk, Jim Franz, Cindy Wierzba, Jackie Rachwal, Jacob Rachwal and Sue Wierzbic.  Correction to March 26 minutes:  Three drawings for money at the chicken bbq; $150.00 included.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

  • Seven hundred fifty chicken dinners are planned for this year's chicken bbq.
     

  • Larry Stiller reported the diosesan Holy Name Society board meeting on April 16.  We were commended because we were the largest membership to attend a meeting.
     

  • Sean O'Dell is our one entrant for the Msgr. McGuire essay contest.  There were 41 essays submitted to the diocesan HNS
     

  • Sue Wierzbic reported that the practices for First Communion and Confirmation went well.  The computer won't print.
     

  • Kathy Gier reported that Alter and Rosary is planning the father's day breakfast.
     

  • Maryann Hauth reported that eucharistic ministers for Eden Heights is down to 2, herself and Rose Stang.  Masses are well attended at the nursing home.  Mass is offered once a month and Holy Communion weekly
     

  • Cindy Wierzbic reported the parish is down about $2000.00 for catholic charities from last year.  Thirty people still haven't returned their envelopes.  We will have a collection the third week of May to try and reach a higher total as it reflects on a lower assessment.
     

  • Father leveled some general criticisms at some behaviors witnessed at our Confirmation at St. Mary's; for example, gum chewing, improper attire i.e. sneakers, dungarees.  He also pointed out that one should in a state of grace to receive the sacrament  and know the lessons taught about the faith of receiving the sacraments.
     

  • First Communion and Confirmation will be followed by catered receptions in the parish hall
     

  • Jacob Rachwal reported we have 11 servers.
     

A motion by Jim Franz, seconded by Rose Stang to adjourn passed.
