St. Mary's Parish Council Meeting September 26, 2006

The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. and began with a prayer.  Present were Kathy Gier, Sue Wiezbic, Maryann Hauth, Greg Gorecki, Jim Franz, Joe Turello, Jackie Rachwal, Jacob Rachwal, Rose Stang, Larry Stiller, Father Bartnik and guest Randy Rachwal.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

  • Sue Wierzbic reported " . . .everything is going well.  Someone must be praying for us"  There will be 30 confirmations this school year.  The Family Mass and social on Sept 25 was hosted by the sixth grade who also assisted at the various services of Mass.  Subsequent classes will be exercising their ministries as their time comes up.
     

  • Halloween party/dance on Oct. 27.  See bulletin for other upcoming events.  Christmas Masses as follows:
    Vigil 4pm (Sunday), then 7:00 am and 10 am Christmas day.
     

  • Our annual Chicken BBQ was a success.  We were able to sell 750 halves and surpassed last year's gross and net.
     

  • Rose Stang reported that the bible study group, though small, is going well every Tuesday evening at 7:00 pm
     

  • Strategic Planning.  Greg Gorecki attended the vicariate meeting on Friday, Sept. 15 with Fr. Bartnik.  He said that one parish in Lackawanna is voluntarily closing.  We at St. Mary's are expected to link with Immaculate Conception in Eden.  Next Wednesday, Oct. 4, the priests will meet at the seminary to debate strategic planning issues.
     

  • Fr. Bartnik reported that many repairs had been completed over the Summer, most paid for by insurance.  These included the ceiling in the choir, ceilings in the classrooms (with shared tiles), ceiling and lights in the hall reception room, church doors painted, etc.  St. Mary's will present its case against All American Sign Co. on Fri Oct 13 in small claims court for the full amount of the sign
     

  • Kenny Bouchard will again be doing our snowplowing.  The contract calls for an expenditure of $1080 per month for 5 months
     

  • From October until Nov. 11th, Daily Mass will start at 8:15 am
     

  • Next meeting last Monday of October, the 29th
