St. Mary's Parish Council Meeting January 15th, 2007

The meeting began with a prayer and a pledge of allegiance led by President Larry Stiller.  A motion by George Rapson seconded by Duane Bauer to accept the previous meeting's minutes passed.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

  • Treasurer Gary Gier reported a balance of $1376.68

NEW BUSINESS:

  • Larry Described briefly the convention meeting in December at St. Andrew inAloan.  About 100 people attended.  A speaker talked about financial planning.  Ray Zentara gave a pep talk increasing membership. 

    Letters thanking Harold Haier and the manager at Shurfine for a good price on turkeys and Harold's donation of a fresh bird for our turkey bingo were sent.
     

  • The following Fridays of Lent:  Feb 23, March 9 and March 23 need three of our members to help with praying of the stations in church.  Kids from CCD will help with the prayers on Wednesdays.  Our next meeting on Feb 19th will allow us to firm up some volunteers.
     

  • The updated calling list will be available next meeting.
     

  • Per Capita dues of $1.00 for each ofour members (42) will be sent to the discesan office this month for the year 2007.
     

  • The downtown HNS office will make available prizes for the Msgr. McGuire essay contest for high school seniors.  $500.00, $300.00, $200.00 for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners.  We will again have $100.00, $75.00, $50.00 for the best essays from St. Mary's
     

  • A Round/Square dance is planned for Feb 17.  Larry will bring snacks.  Time is 8pm to 12am.
     

  • Mother's day May 13.  HNS will provide breakfast for the ladies at 11:00 am
     

  • We will host the HNS diocesan board meeting on April 16.
     

  • A motion by Gene Gates, and seconded to donate $100.00 to I.C. St. Vincent's de Paul Society passed.  Gary Gier will send the donation.

A motion by Gene Gates, seconded by George Rapson to adjourn passed.
