SUPPORT THE CHURCH IN CENTRAL & EASTERN EUROPE

Before the fall of communism, the Church witnessed:

• the destruction and closing of churches, monasteries and seminaries
• the near extinction of deep-rooted and vibrant religious traditions
• the exile of priests, religious, and practicing lay people of labor camps and prisons, where they often died of hunger, cold or grueling work
• the end of charitable and ecclesiastical activities, which were forbidden.
