Parish Council Committees and Committee Roles
Committees - The following
is a suggested list of major committees and the various subcommittees or areas
of concern that can fall under each committee.
Spiritual Life:
Liturgy; Spiritual Renewal; Evangelization; Outreach, Spiritual Formation,
Vocations
Social Justice:
Peace & Justice; Visitation; Right to Life; Social Action
Education:
CCD/Religious Education; Adult Education; School.
Parish Life:
Welcoming; Community Life, Social; Parish Societies; Family Life; Youth and
Census
Finance: Finances;
Parish Facilities; Maintenance; Administrative Services; Special Events.
Roles of Respective
Committees:
Spirtual Life:
- Coordinate liturgy planning,
spiritual programs and evangelization with the parish.
- Evaluate the
parish/program/mission/pastoral plan in regard to the spiritual growth of the
parish community.
- Reach out to the unchurched,
alienated and searching through a coordinated parish plan
- Educate themselves and the
parish to the Mission of Jesus.
- Encourage the growth and
training of ministries both clerical and lay in the parish
Social Justice:
- Create an awareness of peace
and justice within parish and society. Possible areas of involvement are
senior citizens, housing, abortion, euthanasia, poverty, hunger, migrant
workers, nuclear armaments/war, drug problems, racial attitudes, law
enforcement, consumer protection, legislative affairs, refugees, unemployment,
equal rights and health care.
Education:
- Concerned with the religious
education of the whole parish regardless of age.
Parish Life:
- Promote community in the
parish by identifying and providing for social and recreational needs for all
parishioners.
- Recommend programs to existing
parish organizations
- Schedule and coordinate parish
social and recreational events.
- Work with other churches and
civic groups in the community to provide for the social needs of the larger
community.
- Explore ways and means for
involving more of the parish at large in functions and activities of the
parish.
- Promote Christian Life in the
individual parishes (educate itself to the Christian view of marriage and
family life, and set up programs or support existing programs that
promote quality family life)
Finance:
- Concerned with resources,
budget, effective use and maintenance of facilities
